Nếu đã từng xem Trick, Eating Out,… chắc chắn bạn không thể bỏ qua bộ phim này - Is It Just Me? - một bộ phim tình cảm hài hước và lãng mạn, sẽ mang đến cho bạn những giây phút thư giãn cũng như những bài học bổ ích trong tình yêu và những mối quan hệ.

Phim kể về anh chàng gay Blaine – một nhà báo trẻ viết cho tờ phụ trương USA Togay của tờ Los Angeles. Chàng luôn nỗ lực tìm kiếm một tình yêu đích thực cho đời mình, nhưng có vẻ không được may mắn cho lắm. Đến nỗi Blaine luôn tự hỏi: “Phải chăng mình là người duy nhất tìm kiếm một điều gì đó khác hơn là cái-nằm-đằng-sau-dây-kéo-quần? Tại sao giữa một biển người mình mênh mông mình vẫn thấy cô độc?”

Cho đến một ngày Blaine ta gặp được chàng nhạc sĩ Xander, đúng như mẫu người đàn ông trong mơ của mình trên Internet. Hai người đã chat và trò chuyện với nhau qua điện thoại rất thân mật. (Cuộc điện thoại kéo dài khoảng 6 tiếng!!!)

Hai người nhanh chóng kết nhau và chỉ sau cuộc điện thoại thứ hai đã có ý định gặp mặt nhau. Ngay sau khi quyết định được đưa ra, chàng Blaine mới ngỡ ngàng: anh đã vô tình dùng profile của anh bạn cùng phòng – Cameron – để chat với Xander mà không hề hay biết.

Blaine lo sợ rằng nếu đưa hình thật của mình lên mạng, Xander sẽ không thích và không muốn hẹn hò với anh nữa. Bằng cách thách thức Cameron, Blaine đã buộc anh đi cùng mình đến gặp Xander.

“Nếu Xander biết rõ con người anh, cậu ấy sẽ không hẹn hò với anh nữa đâu!” – Blaine
“Anh nghĩ thế sao?” – Cameron – “Nói cho biết, tôi có thể có bất kì chàng trai nào tôi muốn đấy!”
“Vậy sao?” – Blaine – “Anh nghĩ rằng Xander thích vẻ ngoài của anh hơn là tình cảm thân thuộc giữa chúng tôi à? Tôi không nghĩ vậy đâu!”
“Câu đang thách tôi đó hả?!” - Cameron

Thế nhưng mọi chuyện lại đi quá xa, dẫn đến những tình cảnh đau lòng.

Xander thất vọng khi biết được sự thật

Liệu Blaine có thể giải quyết được những hiểu lầm, rắc rối này và tìm lại tình yêu đích lực mà bấy lâu nay anh tìm kiếm? Liệu Xander có thể tha thức cho Blaine để tiếp tục mối quan hệ của hai người?

Nếu chỉ dừng lại một bộ phim tình cảm giải trí nhẹ nhàng, phim hẳn sẽ không được trình chiếu tại 37 liên hoan phim quốc tế. Phim đọng lại trong tâm trí, cảm xúc người xem ở những thông điệp nho nhỏ trong tình yêu và cuộc sống, rằng: Hãy bước ra thế giới ngoài kia đi, tình yêu đang ở quanh ta đó! Đừng ngần ngại chi nữa vì “ngày tháng xanh sẽ qua, có biết bao lâu sao ta hững hờ”.

Những người bạn thân luôn ở bên ta, chia sẻ những nỗi buồn cùng ta…

… và cho ta những lời khuyên hữu ích:

“Không ai là hoàn hảo cả. Nếu chúng ta không hài lòng về nhau mà cứ nghĩ rằng, ngoài kia còn rất nhiều người đàn ông, và ta cứ đi tìm kiếm sự hoàn hảo đó. Chúng ta sẽ mất nhau…” “Đừng làm điều cậu « nghĩ » mình nên làm. Hãy làm điều cậu « biết » mình nên làm” “Nhưng hãy đừng chờ đợi!”

Đôi khi, hãy chia sẻ với nhau như những người bạn. Những giây phút ấy thật đáng giá biết bao!

The psychological fallout from alternative sexualities is explored to subtle and penetrating effect in Lucia Puenzo’s “XXY,” a study of teen angst that’s grounded in more than simply nebulous emotion. Pic has more in common with standard child-parent conflict dramas than it would probably care to admit, but its sensitive treatment of an equally sensitive theme elevates it into something memorable. Only drawbacks are some clumsy symbolism and a slight tendency to be overly schematic. Plenty of fest exposure beckons for Puenzo’s debut movie in which, unusually, accomplishment matches ambition.

Along with her parents, marine biologist Kraken (Ricardo Darin) and Suli (Valeria Bertuchelli), teen Alex (Ines Efron) has left Argentina for Uruguay. Despite the title’s foreshadowing, we have to wait a while before discovering the reasons for the family’s move and Alex’s obviously alienated state: s/he’s a hermaphrodite.

Alex, having reached puberty, must decide about her future. But any decision is complicated by the arrival of family friends, plastic surgeon Ramiro (German Palacios), Erika (Carolina Pelereti), and their toothy son, Alvaro (Martin Piroyanski). No sooner have they arrived than Alex is proposing outright to Alvaro that they have sex together.

Meanwhile, Alex has broken the nose of local boy Vando (Luciano Nobile) for casting aspersions on his sexuality. After a grueling scene in which Alex is near-raped by a gang of Vando’s friends, Kraken jumps to Alex’s defense. When Alvaro finally takes Alex up on the offer of sex, they are caught in flagrante delicto by Kraken.

The split widens between the worlds of the adults, with their petty rivalries, and the kids, who are discovering themselves sexually (Alvaro is slowly realizing that he’s gay). It’s the kids, finally, who show greater flexibility in coming to terms with their identities.

All of this is communicated with the minimum of stylistic fuss — long shots in true New Argentine Cinema style, plenty of windy-beach atmospherics and dialogue that’s scant but emotion-rich (storyline proceeds through just a few intimate conversations). Technique is at its best during a lengthy nighttime beach scene in which Alex, Alvaro and Vando simply sit there for a couple of minutes, the air heavy with inexpressible emotions.

Perfs are fine, with Efron and Piroyanski in particular exploiting the subtleties of the script to gripping effect as their cat-and-mouse relationship develops. Efron’s ambiguous sexuality is never in doubt; Piroyaski evokes much sympathy.

Darin turns in a typically brooding perf as the father who wants the best for his child but is uncomfortable with the truth about Alex. Thesp shoulders one of pic’s key themes — how parents will claim to put their children’s interests first while hypocritically controlling their sex lives in accordance with their own fears and prejudices.

A couple of characters could have been shed without doing undue damage to either theme or plot: neither Ramiro nor Erika are able to punch their dramatic weight.

The scripted short film series Coffee Talk features two gay college buddies meeting up for coffee and talking about intimate guy things: tattoos, gays in sports, girly guys, gay fathers, sugar daddies, gay marriage, closeted in the country… the topics are endless.

While sitting on the couch and discussing the most controversial pros and cons of each topic, these college buddies experience intense emotions and discover personal secrets. The conversation quickly goes in an unexpected direction, and finally ends with a funny gag.

Coffee Talk targets a gay-friendly audience and everybody who loves informative and entertaining comedies that also have a moment of truth. Coffee Talk is a not-for-profit project and seeks to develop awareness about gay issues in an entertaining way.
